Rest is not Idleness

Our new prompt on Colour Me Positive is: Rest. There was no art challenge this week. I can't begin to tell you just how many layers there are on these pages. The spread started well but deteriorated a lot in the process till finally I gessoed over the whole lot and started again. Some of the previous layers still peek through here and there but if you can't see it the supplies won't be mentioned!
I took an age to decide on my main image and that face covers a previous one that was just wrong for the spread and didn't provide sufficient contrast. I was however very pleased with the quotation I found for the prompt. It's from John Lubbock's book The Use of Life. It says: "Rest is not idleness, and to be sometimes on the grass under trees listening to the murmur of the water, on a summer's day, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time".
Techniques used: collage (with the birds from the Flow calendar, the face from a fashion magazine and a postage stamp), rubber stamping, and stencilling. I also outlined with ink pads and markers.
Tools used: rubber stamps from Impress Me Now by Sherrill Kahn as well as a small circles stamp (no idea where that came from) and the following stencils from Stencilgirl: the large and medium stencil from the Circle Up set for March 2016 Stencilgirl Club.
